Claudia Di Gangi

I work principally with drawings, collages and sketches of ideas
that eventually end up as digital videos. I like the web-browsing culture
of instant imagery and unexpected connotations. Inspired by the homemade
low quality products that circulate on YouTube.com in some of my video I've
taken images, music and sounds off the web. This searching for images and
sounds on the web can take longer then the actual editing process, often
up to 2 days.
Expanding on the concept of visual pleasure the videos is nothing but images.
This criterion carries their meanings alone and no other desire influenced
me to pick them other than visual attractiveness. You know, I just go on
'google images' type onto its brows, for example 'rubbish viewed from the
top' and pick the pictures I like most. I create compositions, collages
that have to fit into one another in the video and outside. Having a background
as a painter brought me to think of the video as a moving painting and that's
why colours as shapes are important for me. The playfulness of the medium
made me prefer it to painting.
My films are partly planned and in some case I perform in front of the camera
in some other I film randomly my friends playing instruments and singing
or interacting with other people in the street. I can work alone in my studio
space or collaborate with friends in different places.
